While external physical symmetry is frequently necessary for such   things as aerodynamic motion, internally, we may be completely asymmetrical. How and why did these asymmetries arise? We will look at physical and functional symmetries  and asymmetries through evolution and development, ranging from molecules to cells,   whole organisms and society.
