Abstract
“I think you should not do that. It’s extremely stupid.”
“I’ll do whatever I feel is right.”
“I’ll have to stop you then”
“Yeah well, you can try”
WHAM! BAM!
Does this situation sound familiar to you? In fact, has any of these sentences spouted from your own mouth?
Think back to days long gone, when you and your sibling(s) went at it with no holds barred.
Think back to those hot summer days, when you stood by and watched two of your friends duke it out on the ground.
Think back to your coming of age, and all the verbal assaults to establish your independence.
Have you ever wondered if you were the only person who had to go through all this? Have you thought about whether conflict is a human concept, created to explain the prevalence of the same in our society?
You are not alone in seeking answers to these questions. We went ahead and sought to answer these questions for you. Come to Sympotein XI and find out what we found out!
In this Sympotein, entitled “Conflict”, we bring you a bird’s eye view of Conflict in the animal kingdom. We look at various aspects of the same, providing an overview of what it is, who is involved, what strategies are used, and how conflict management takes place. We conclude with a public talk by Laurence Cockcroft on “Corruption and Human Conflict”.
So come down to Dasheri, NCBS at 2:30pm, on 11th March 2013 to finally find out how to lead a peaceful life. Okay, maybe that was a bit too exaggerated. You might never find peace, but at least you’ll get to know why!
Or maybe the High Tea at 5:30pm would be enough of an incentive for you. Either way, we hope to see you there!
