Conference on Concepts and Mechanisms in Plant Development
Conference on Concepts and Mechanisms in Plant Development
March 20, 2014
Venue: Dasheri, National Centre for Biological Sciences, GKVK, Bangalore
Organizer: P.V. Shivaprasad, NCBS
Registration Closed
Research in plant science has never been more important. Plants are the basis for sustenance of ever growing needs of man – whether it be food, fibre or fuel. Plants are the key components in addressing problems created by climate change, while simultaneously preserving habitats. These global challenges can only be addressed through a strong and fundamental understanding of the core elements of plant omics.
The conference will integrate multidisciplinary areas like physiology, gene regulation, gene silencing to unravel at least some of the decision making machinery of plants that utilize DNA, RNA, protein or metabolites in this process.
Emphasis has been placed on the breadth of impact experienced by plants due to biotic and abiotic stress and their response to this trigger. There is thus an urgent need complete this jigsaw puzzle by understanding plant growth and development in its entirety. The fallout of this process will be the elucidation of novel components and gaining insight in its underlying network. Finally information gained from model systems can be translated to other crops.
The invited speakers are at the forefront of their fields in India presenting cutting edge research directed towards a fundamental understanding of how different aspects of plant growth and development are controlled in response to intrinsic and external signals, and how such mechanisms are modified over evolutionary time.
